The species and turfgrass will dictate the type and rate of fertilizer applied to your lawn. Fertilization consists of five applications plus a separate Broadleaf Weed Control as follows:
All Fertilizer is granular from lasting 6 to 8 weeks with end result of approx. 4 lbs. of Nitrogen per thousand square feet for the season. You will also receive a Broadleaf Weed Control with Crabgrass control in Mid-May and a second Broadleaf Weed Control in early fall. (In wetter seasons additional weed control applications may be necessary.)
Mowing frequency, mowing height, fertilization, irrigation, and weather conditions all have an effect on weed and pest control. Managing these separate cultural practices is called the process of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). IPM will be used by Warstler Bros. Landscaping, Inc. to minimize the amount of pesticides used in your landscape as recommended by The Ohio State University. We will no longer be making preventative applications of insecticides. Research indicates this method of turf grass management is wasteful and not part of IPM. IPM says that we will adhere to sound horticultural maintenance practices to keep our lawns healthy and growing. We will monitor your lawn for problems the best we can, but ask you, the customer, to call the office immediately if you see a change in your lawn as we may only be on some lawns every 6 to 8 weeks. If a problem is detected we will first identify the pest, this may include sending sample to the extension service for proper identification. We will then treat the affected area with the proper pesticides at label rates.
Grub control will be done on an as-needed basis, and we will use your lawn's past history to determine if any preventative treatments are needed. This is an additional charge. Again, please call the office immediately if you see a change in your lawn.
